Not everyone enjoys the chore of doing their laundry. Whether done at home or laundry, it is a never-ending chore to keep up with. However, it doesn't have to be a time-consuming endeavor.

Planning may make your trip to the laundry room less of a chore and more of an experience to look forward to. Doing your clothes in a laundromat might save you time in the long run.

Here are six tips to make your trip to the laundromat a breeze:

1. Plan Your Trip

Planning your trip to the laundromat allows you to save time when doing your laundry. If you are going to a laundromat to do a large amount of laundry, schedule the best time for your trip. If you live along the bus or train route, use this to your advantage.

Doing laundry on the weekend will likely have you waiting in line and taking longer than usual. If possible, try to plan your trip to the laundromat during weekdays. When you arrive at the laundromat, have your coins ready so you can start right away.

2. Use the Right Amount of Detergent

Using too much detergent can stain your clothes or even cause other issues. Thankfully, you can do several things to determine the correct amount to use.

Find the detergent's recommended amount on your bottle. This is the amount you should use per load. If your detergent doesn't have recommended amounts on it, use a scoop from the detergent's container, which should hold around one tablespoon of detergent.

For small loads, two tablespoons of detergent will be enough. If you are unsure about detergent, use the lesser amount and add more if necessary.

3. Avoid Overloading Your Machine

If you overfill your machine, your clothes may not get clean. Overloading your machine will also cause it to wear out sooner. If your machine is too small for the number of clothes you want to wash, consider washing a few loads at a time.

Leave an inch of space between the clothes and the lid for large loads. For smaller loads, leave at least three inches of space.

4. Don't Overload Your Dryer

Overloading your dryer can cause several problems. You may have to run the dryer multiple times to get your clothes dry, or your clothes may not dry properly. This can cause them to shrink or for clothing colors to run.

To avoid problems, make sure you use a large enough dryer for your clothes. For smaller loads, a dryer with a capacity of 4 to 5 pounds is sufficient. For larger loads, you may want to use a dryer with a capacity of 7 pounds or more.

5.Use the Correct Load Size

Using a load size that is too small can result in your clothes not being cleaned well. Using too large of a load will cause your clothes to tumble without being cleaned. To figure out how much to use, you can use the clothes in your load as a guideline.

If you are using heavily soiled items, such as the clothes from a messy toddler, use a small load. As for lightly soiled clothing or items that have been worn once, you may want to use a larger load.

For heavily soiled items, use a maximum of three-quarters capacity. For lightly soiled items, use a maximum of half capacity.

6. Save Time by Using the Drying Racks

The drying racks in a laundromat can be your best friend. If you dislike waiting for your clothes to dry in the dryer, use the racks instead. If you have a large load, hang clean dryers. You will then have an empty dryer for your clothes.

If you don't have a large load, consider using the racks to dry earlier batches of your washed clothes. You can also use this to air out your clothes afterward.

Conclusion

The idea of doing your laundry in a laundromat may not sound appealing. However, this can be a convenient way to do your chores. Planning your trip can help you use your time more effectively and even make the experience more enjoyable.
